According to latest research from Strategy Analytics, Apple has taken a distinctive lead in the global smartwatch marketshare. The company’s data shows that Apple has 75.5% marketshare, while Samsung, its main competitor only has 7.5%. Before the Apple Watch release, Samsung was the market leader with 73.6%.
Strategy Analytics estimates that Apple has shipped over 4 million units of the Apple Watch. During a recent earnings report, Apple CEO Tim Cook mentioned that Apple Watch sales “exceeded expectations,” although he didn’t mention how many units have been sold.
“On the Watch,” Cook continued, “our June sales were higher than April or May. I realize that’s very different than some of the stuff being written, but the June sales were the highest. And so the Watch had a more of a back-ended kind of a skewing.” He also mentioned that Apple’s own market research “shows that 94% of Apple Watch owners wear and use it regularly, if not every day.”
