Apple today announced that the preorders for the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus have dwarfed all previous records. They have moved approximately 4 million units in the first 24 hours. That is twice the number of preorders that was achieved in 24 hours by iPhone 5 back in 2012. Apple didn’t provide any breakdown for the preorders, so we’re unfamiliar with the exact numbers of iPhone 6 vs iPhone 6 Plus units that have been preordered.
Apple will start selling the new iPhones in its retail locations and through authorized resellers and carrier partner stores starting September 19. Launch countries include the United States, Canada, Australia, Germany, France, Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore, Puerto Rico and the UK. Starting September 26, the devices will be available in 20 additional countries including Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Ireland, Isle of Man, Italy, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, Qatar, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Turkey and the United Arab Emirates.
