Apple has just released iOS 9 to all iPhone, iPad and iPod touch users. You can download it by going to Settings -> General and then Software Update. Make sure you have about 1.3 GB of free space on your device. The alternative way would be to install it via iTunes, after connecting your device to your computer.
So, what is exactly new in iOS 9? Here are some of the best new features in the new operating system.
Low Power Mode
This is quite possibly one of the most important new features in iOS 9. You can activate it at any time, and extend the battery life of your device. Under the hood, this mode disables different things like background app refresh, mail fetch, automatic downloads etc.
You can enable it by going to Settings -> Battery.
Public Transit Directions
iOS 9 adds a new function to the Maps app, which now has public transit information. At launch, it will be available in 10 large cities, but the list will continue to grow over time.
New Notes app
Apple’s Notes app received a complete overhaul and has a lot of new features. You can draw and sketch in the Notes app now, take photos from within the app, turn any list into a checklist etc. The app also allows you to embed websites, maps, and more.
If you own an iPad Air 2 or iPad mini 4, you will be able to enjoy another a brand new feature of iOS 9 – multitasking. Users can now open two apps and use them at the same time, side by side. You can also watch a YouTube video or use FaceTime, while you’re reading your email for example.
iOS 9 comes with a new app on your Home screen. Thanks to the News app you don’t have to visit a bunch of different websites and open different news apps, as it collects all stories you find interesting in one place.
